Introduction

Our chapter encompasses all of the Verde Valley. Our members are from all the cities in the Verde Valley and our main area of interest and work is in the Verde Valley, although we have members from Flagstaff. Our chapter is a very active chapter. We have approximately 130 members who are active in all aspects of archaeology. We have opportunities for people to volunteer for survey, excavation, analysis, helping at Museum of Northern Arizona and other activities. Our monthly speakers offer a wide range of topics and our field trips are second to none. This year we had a field trip to New Mexico and had Dr. David Wilcox along as our mentor. We are always ready and do volunteer for any projects that need help, whether it be from the Museum of Northern Arizona, the Coconino and Prescott National Forest Service Archaeologist or Private Contract firms. Another first for our chapter is a Discussion Group. Once a month, a group of members get together to discuss a pre-determined topic after researching the topic. We have lively and interesting discussions while learning something new. I invite any interested in Archaeology to contact an officer for more information.

Field Trips

Photo 1. Verde Valley Chapter members in Mexico City. Commentary: Spring of 2007 saw Chapter members on a Field trip to Mexico, Guatamala and Honduras to learn about the Incan Culture. We visited many sites including Tikal, Copan, Palenque, Bonampak and many other sites. We were fortunate to have the prominent archaeologist Dr. Christopher Powell to guide us to many of the sites and give lectures.
Photo 2. Verde Valley Chapter at Petroglyph Site Along the Mohave Trail. Commentary: The Chapter spent 3 days in the Laughlin Area visiting sites in Arizona, Nevada and California. We were fortunate to have Craig Johnson, BLM Archaeologist from Kingman to guide us to the Warm Springs Site. We saw some interesting Petroglyhs. A wonderful time had by all.
