Day one: Wednesday June 17th Tracks and Scat Workshop
Time 9:00am to 2:00pm
Join us for day one of these dual workshops. Learn and have some fun discovering the many mysteries of the creatures that inhabit natural environment. Join us in an animal tracking and scat class with Al Cornell. We are walking some trails to increase our outdoor awareness and ability to find as well as interpret tracks, scat, and signs left behind by animals.
The ability to find, interpret and follow tracks or sign left by an animal’s passage is an essential skill for persons interested in their surroundings. Attending this introduction class to tracking enables you to expand awareness to new horizons in the outdoors. This is a fun and very outdoor informative workshop. Al Cornell is a great instructor and we should all learn a lot from him.
Day two Thursday, June 18th Land Navigation by Map and Compass/Recreational Survival Skills Workshop
Time 9:00am to 2:00pm
How to use maps and compass workshop.
Hands-on map and compass usage course. An adventure hike that includes a little “Recreational Survival” during a basic hike. Note: This is a fun outing and not a test or real survival - just some enjoyment.

Knowledge of land navigation skills is important for all of us who hike.
Being able to find your way in the outdoors is very useful. When hiking or in possible emergencies, the skills used in land navigation are essential off marked trails or the backcountry.
It is important that we all learn how to property use land navigation techniques even through many of us might have GPS units (with charged batteries?).
In this workshop, we learn how to read and effectively use the compass as well as adjusting for declination. Additionally, with the use of topographical maps and compass, you can learn you map position nearly as accurately as a GPS unit.
BOTH DAYS: There is some walking/hiking on uneven gravel paths and various incline grades.
