THE FIELD TRIP: Saturday, March 14, 2015
This field trip led by Dr. David Doyel (retired BMGR-East archaeologist) and Adrianne Rankin, archaeologist with the BMGR-East. This is a rare opportunity to visit sites on the Air Force side of the Barry M. Goldwater Range. Likely visitation sites include Chris Glyphs, a tinaja site with rock art in an upland desert setting on the east side of the range, and Lago Seco, a large habitation site in a lowland desert setting on the west side of the range.
ITINERARY:
We meet at the front gate at the Gila Bend Air Force Auxiliary Field (GBAFAF) on Hwy 85 (Rocky Point Road) a few miles south of Gila Bend. We start at 8:30 am. We are consolidating vehicles (car pool) at that point; the Air force does not provide transportation. We should be back at the vehicles between 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Some driving is on dirt roads with “no” high clearance or 4-wheel drive requirement. Some walking necessary but is on flat land and short distances, about a quarter-mile. Members must sign a hold-harmless agreement, as all people entering the range must do. This trip could be cancelled on short notice due to the Air Force scheduling, over which we have no control. Remember to bring water, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, etc. Photographs are allowed.
