AAS Annual Bookmark Contest

March is designated throughout the state of Arizona as Archaeology Month.  The Arizona Archaeological Society sponsors a student Bookmark Contest. The first prizes are $50, second prizes are $25, and third prizes are $15. Each category receives one first prize, one second prize, and one third prize.  The categories are divided accordingly:

Intermediate grades:  4-6 (in some schools 6th grade might fall into middle school)
Middle School/Junior High grades:  7th - 8th
High School grades:  9-12

The winning bookmark designs are judged the last weekend in January. Once  printed, they are distributed at numerous archaeological event. With fourteen archaeological chapters throughout Arizona, the winning bookmarks travel far and wide! Designs become the property of the Arizona Archaeological Society.

Notification letters of the contest are sent to art or history teachers at about 1,000 schools throughout Arizona by the end of October. The deadline for submissions is mid-January, with result announced in early February. If you are with an Arizona school and did not receive a letter, please let us know so that you can be included in the next contest.
